HORNLINK ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND

HORNLINK is a Somali NGO with head office in Kismayo with some field offices in other regions of Somalia Gedo region, Lower Jubba Kismayo, Afmadow and Badadhe. The organization has also liaison offices in Nairobi Kenya. It was established in March 2000 by a group of Somali intellectuals who at that time recognized the need to set up a local none governmental organization (NGO) to promote the humanitarian relief efforts to help the needy people in war-torn regions of the country, following the civil war disaster that had the ravaged the country.

The overall goal of HORNLINK Organization is to improve the socio-economic condition of Somali community through creation of employment generation activities by forming an execution of grass roots level participation in rural/urban community with the assistance of national and international Donors. Hornlink helps the poorest to improve their access to healthcare, water Sanitation and education and provides immediate relief and longer term rehabilitation to people affected by conflicts and natural disaster.

Within Somalia Hornlink’s strategy is to contribute towards the prevention of livelihood deterioration, improvement in livelihood support systems and living standards of pastoralists, agro-pastoralists and other vulnerable groups in the region. Hornlink has a liaison office in Nairobi (Kenya) supporting programmes in Somalia.

Hornlink is legally registered with the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia and the Kenya NGOs Registration Board.

HORNLINK considers that the most significant economic trends in Somalia are Sustained Agricultural Production, Promotion of social services and development of private sector.

HORNLINK sought these programs will accelerate development of the rural / urban poor areas increase employment opportunities, and reduce morbidity rates of the children.

The main objectives for this program were to increase food production amelioration of such social services as health education between urban and rural areas, and reducing disparities in access to basic social services.

HORNLINK implemented various project with funds from Somali Community in Diaspora and locally generated funds from INGOs, Donor funds and international agencies
